Renewable energy is generating more energy than coal and gas

Renewable Energy Surpassing Non-Renewables

  • Renewable energy has produced more electricity than brown coal over our summer for the first time in Australia’s history, while also out generating gas turbines for the third year in a row.

  • Solar, wind and hydro power produced a total of 9880 gigawatt hours (one gigawatt hour equates to 1000 megawatt hours) this summer.

  • Relates to be 8 percent greater than brown coal power stations output and 40 per cent more productive than gas.

Peak Power Generation Hours

  • Between 11am and 7pm, when the summer peak hours are most crucial, renewables generated an average of 5610 MW, which stands to be 32 per cent greater than brown coal power output and 78 percent greater than gas power, with solar leading the way.

  • Although solar is weather dependent, it is clearly seen here that the generation of energy during peak hours far exceed that of non-renewable energy.

  • Solar power has generated more energy than some coal stations across Australia, with solar exceeding certain coal stations by up to 48% during hours between 4pm and 5pm and by a huge 162% between 12pm and 1pm.

Coal is not an efficient source of energy and the politicians are starting to realise

  • Due to the long hot summers, Australians across the country were inundated by frequent power outages, as coal power stations could not keep up with the high demand.

  • Since understanding the lack of efficiency by the coal stations, there has been a huge jump in renewable energy projects across Australia, with over 5000MW of large-scale wind and solar capacity schemes under construction.

  • Over 2000 MW of solar is expected to be available next summer, while 1100MW of rooftop solar systems are being installed annually the solar revolution is only accelerating.

With renewable energy making a huge surge in the energy sector, with solar power leading the way, many home and business owners across Australia are making the transition to their own personal source of sustainable energy. The Energy division at AICA are leaders in the market when it comes to professional solar PV and battery storage installations. Having over a decade of experience in solar energy, our team of highly qualified solar experts can determine the perfect solar system to reduce your energy bills and ensure you of a sustainable, eco-friendly future.
