With some of the highest energy bills worldwide, Australians are becoming increasingly fed up as the government takes a backseat while the energy industry giants continue to increase our bills.
Demanding new energy efficient policies, Australian residents have united to voice their thoughts with the want to hit back at the energy sector.
A new survey conducted by YouGov Galaxy shows 90% of voters believe governments need to play a role in reducing the nation’s high power bills, with 88% believing investing into energy efficiency is what we the Government can do to achieve this.

Renewable energy took a prevailing stance in the poll, with 50% of respondents refuting the idea to reduce government incentives for solar power systems and battery storage solutions, with just 34% supporting the idea.
Investments into new coal-fired generators received a drastically negative response in the poll with just 4% of respondents supporting the proposal.
This comes as a clear message to government officials, as energy ministers are set to discuss the new National Energy Guarantee, which looks to creating new coal-fired power developments rather than developing and maintaining existing coal-fired plants.

This widely agreed upon view that we need to shift our focus to renewable energy isn’t just supported by the Australian public, but government spearheads as well.

Will becoming more energy efficient be more effective than simply supplying more power?
The survey commissioned by the Property Council of Australia (PCA), Energy Efficiency Council and Australian Council for Social Services (ACOSS) clearly detail energy efficiency is the most popular policy the government can address.
PCA Chief Executive, Ken Morrison, believes our government is focused on producing a higher rate of energy supply, where we should be shifting our focus towards reducing the demand for power.
With an increasing amount of renewable sources and utilising energy efficient fixtures and appliances, this is absolutely achievable.
The poll detailed a 79% support towards incentives to upgrade commercial buildings, 80% in favour of minimum energy efficiency standards for rental homes and a staggering 92% were in support of better energy efficiency in public buildings (schools or hospitals).
According to ACOSS CEO, Cassandra Goldie, Australian residents can save upwards of $600 per year by simply upgrading their appliances from a 2 star to a 6 star energy rating.
Knowing that upgrading everything in your house at one time in the hopes to cut down your energy bill is practically and economically not viable for a lot of Australians, investing in energy efficient versions of appliances which use the most of your energy might be the way to start.
As the majority of your power bill goes to your lights and a huge amount is needed to power your average air-conditioner, these appliances need to be addressed in order to cut down that energy bill of yours.
