Business owners across Australia have invested in the future of their company after rising electricity costs made it inevitable for them to install a renewable energy system.
According to a new report from the Climate Council, nearly half of all Australian businesses have decided to get off the grid by installing large scale solar systems and battery storage technology.
The report also revealed that over the past decade, energy bills for residential properties and small businesses have risen by around 90 per cent, while gas prices have increased threefold since 2013.

As a result, businesses hit a record number of solar installations nationwide, having increased by 60 per cent over 2016-17. The rapid rate of installations has doubled the capacity of businesses generating solar energy since 2016 and brings the total commercial solar installation count to 40,000.
Major Australian companies have not let their sheer size determine how they use their energy, with 46 per cent of big business making the conversion to solar energy.
Why should your business make the switch?
Following the Climate Council’s findings, renewables (wind and solar) are a far cheaper source of energy than their fossil fuel counterparts.
Climate Council analyst Petra Stock said the Renewable Energy Target (RET) has played a big part in the sudden price drop of wholesale solar energy, resulting in the cost of retail solar energy to further decline, and enticed thousands of Australian businesses to convert to solar.
Ms Stock said following the current price trend of renewable energy, the average should expect a further drop in energy prices of up to $200.
Saving millions of dollars per years on power bills each year, don’t leave your switch to solar too late.
Not only will it have businesses saving on their energy bills, but they will be able to market their sustainable operations in a highly positive way.
The Climate Council found 80 per cent of Australians believe big business should be using renewable energy as their main source of power while a further 76 per cent would be more inclined to purchase a product manufactured from a renewable energy source than a grid-generated product.

As you may have read in previous solar business blogs, big business in Australia is determined to save on energy costs and do their part to meet the RET requirements, with some businesses on track to become 100% renewable in a matter of months. With over 5,000 MW of renewable energy projects underway across Australia in 2018, don’t be the business left behind in the renewable energy revolution.
